DIGICARE project officially launches in Berlin, Germany!

We are pleased to announce the official launch of the DIGICARE project, following our successful first transnational kick-off meeting held in Berlin on 12-13 November 2025. Hosted by the project’s coordinator, AMANDLA (Safe-Hub Berlin), the two-day event brought together partners from Germany, Spain, Italy, and Belgium, marking the start of the project’s activities.

Project overview and key objectives

Over 74 million people in the EU are currently at risk of poverty or social exclusion. Although social professionals work daily to support vulnerable communities, many organisations still rely on limited resources and manual processes. DIGICARE (digital competences for the improvement of social intervention actions in risk of exclusion contexts) is a 24-month Erasmus+ initiative that aims to effect a real shift in the way the social sector works.

The project will provide practical, tailored training to equip social workers and Vocational Education and Training (VET) educators with advanced digital skills, specifically focusing on data management and Artificial Intelligence (AI). By leveraging these technologies, professionals will be able to design more effective, evidence-based intervention approaches.

Over the course of the project, DIGICARE will produce several key outcomes:

  • An open, web-based training platform: a user-friendly digital space that hosts all learning materials.
  • A best practices guide: a collection of ten real success stories and methodologies in social intervention from across Europe.
  • Tailored training modules: practical open educational resources on how to apply AI and data management to everyday social practice.
  • Integration recommendations: operational guidance on  incorporating these digital training resources into formal VET programmes and third-sector upskilling initiatives.

The team behind DIGICARE

DIGICARE is driven by a consortium of five organisations from four European countries. The project is led by Safe-Hub an inspiring community-based space run by the international NGO AMANDLA (Germany), in partnership with the Asociación Entre Amigos de Sevilla (Spain), the European Vocational Training Association, EVTA (Belgium), the University of Sassari, UNISS (Italy), and OnProjects (Spain). Together, these partners bring extensive expertise in social intervention, higher education, vocational training and communication.

Kick-off meeting highlights and what comes next

The Berlin meeting marked the beginning of our collaborative journey. During the sessions, partners worked on defining the core methodological framework for the training resources and discussed how to align the content with the real needs of social professionals. The team also held productive workshops on inclusive communication to ensure our digital channels combat stereotypes and promote a positive view around vulnerable communities.
